The week just does not stretch any further. Meetings, commutes, work lunches, children, errands, the usual obligations. And exercise ends up being the first thing to go when the schedule tightens. If you have spent months telling yourself that this week you will start, but the week never comes, the problem may not be motivation. The problem may be the timetable.
At Pinar Pilates, in the Salamanca district, we have been opening on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 to 13:50 for years precisely for this reason. Because there are people who can only move at the weekend, and those people deserve exactly the same classes, the same instructors and the same quality as those who come Monday to Friday.
This article is for you if you want to know whether Reformer Pilates works when you train only at weekends, how to organise those sessions to get the most out of them and why Saturday and Sunday mornings at our studio have become one of the favourite moments of the week for hundreds of students in Madrid.
Why So Many People Can Only Exercise at the Weekend
It is not laziness. It is arithmetic. A 9-hour working day plus commuting leaves little room. If you also have children, the room disappears entirely between 7:00 and 22:00 Monday to Friday. Studies on barriers to exercise in the Spanish adult population confirm it: lack of time is the number one reason people do not exercise, or give it up.
There are several profiles that come up again and again in our weekend classes:
Professionals with highly demanding schedules. Doctors, lawyers, consultants, executives who travel frequently. Their working week does not end at 18:00 and when it does, the body only wants dinner and bed. The weekend is the only time they can decide how their day starts.
Parents with school-age children. During the week, family logistics rule. At the weekend, with the children at activities or the other parent at home, the first real window of time for themselves in days appears.
People who work outside Madrid during the week. A significant share of our weekend students live in Madrid but work fully or partly outside the city. They leave on Monday and come back on Thursday or Friday. Saturday morning is their first moment to do something for themselves.
Those with rotating shifts or alternate weekends off. When their rest days fall on the weekend, they make the most of it. When they do not, we also have weekday times that can fit.
The Weekend Timetable at Pinar Pilates
Saturday and Sunday, from 9:00 to 13:50. 50-minute classes that start on time and finish on time, so the rest of the day is yours.
There is no reduced version or adapted format. They are the same classes as always: Reformer Pilates in groups of 8 people maximum, with the same instructors who teach the weekday classes and the same level of individual attention that has earned us more than 490 Google reviews (average 4.9 out of 5).
The studio opens in time for you to come in, set up your Reformer and start without rushing. The 9:00 to 13:50 slot covers several sessions, so you have room to choose whether you prefer to get up early and have the rest of the morning free or come a little later and start the day more calmly.
To see all the available times and the level of each class, go to the booking page and check the updated calendar. Since weekend classes fill up fast, it is best to book in advance.
The Same Quality as on Weekdays, No Exceptions
A frequent worry for anyone considering training only at weekends is whether the classes are “second-rate”. Whether the star instructor is on during the week and the stand-ins take over on Saturday. At Pinar Pilates it does not work like that.
The team of instructors rotates in an organised way to guarantee quality coverage at every time. There is no A team for weekdays and B team for the weekend. There is one team, and that team covers every slot to the same standard.
The maximum of 8 people per class does not change on Saturday or Sunday. This limit is not marketing: it is the condition that makes it possible for the instructor to correct the position of your pelvis, adjust the tension of your springs when you need more or less resistance and adapt the exercise if you arrive with a knot or a niggle. In a class of 20 that is impossible. In a class of 8 it is the norm.
If you would like to understand better how your first class works or what to expect if you have never been on a Reformer, we have a specific article for that.
How to Build a Solid Routine Training Only at the Weekend
The question everyone considering this pattern asks most is: does it work? Does it make sense to do Pilates only two days a week?
The short answer is yes, with important nuances.
Reformer Pilates produces neuromuscular, postural and motor-control adaptations that build up session by session. The available evidence suggests that the minimum frequency for consistent results is 2 sessions a week. Two sessions at the weekend meet exactly that frequency. That is 8 classes a month. That is enough to notice real changes in 6 to 8 weeks of regular practice.
What changes compared with training 3 or 4 times a week:
- The changes are more gradual. They are still real, but the body gets less weekly stimulus.
- Recovery between sessions is longer. For someone starting out or with high muscle sensitivity, this can even be an advantage.
- Consistency is easier to maintain. A habit that fits your real life lasts. One that requires reorganising your whole week does not.

How to Get the Most out of Your Two Weekly Sessions
If you only have Saturday and Sunday, use them well. Some concrete guidelines:
Space the two sessions at least a day apart. Consecutive Saturday and Sunday are perfect: you work on Saturday, rest on Sunday if you like, or the other way round. What is not ideal is doing both sessions on the same day.
Tell your instructor how your week has been. If you have had a lot of stress, slept badly or have not moved for five days, the instructor can steer the session towards more restorative work. If you arrive with energy, they can turn up the intensity.
Put consistency above intensity. Two classes every week for three months are worth more than five classes one week and none for the rest of the month. Reformer Pilates responds to regularity.
Weekends in Madrid: Pilates and Something More
There is something special about Saturday mornings in the Salamanca district. The city runs at a different pace. The streets are quieter at 9:00. The neighbourhood cafés fill up slowly. The terraces on Calle Jorge Juan look different from during the week.
Many of our weekend students have made the class the first act of their Saturday or Sunday morning, and what comes afterwards is part of the plan from the start.
Leaving class at 9:50 or 10:50 and having a good brunch at one of the neighbourhood spots a couple of steps from the studio. A walk in the Retiro, which is still quiet at that hour. Getting to the Torrijos market before it fills up. Strolling down Serrano. Staying to read on a terrace with the body switched on and the mind clear.
This is not forced wellness talk. It is that an early-morning Reformer session creates a physical and mental activation that changes the quality of the hours that follow. Cortisol drops, circulation gets going, the tension built up over the week starts to release. And that feeling of having done something for yourself before 10:00 on a Saturday has an effect on your mood that is hard to describe and very easy to check.
Calle del Pinar 8 is at the heart of all this. Five minutes’ walk from Gregorio Marañón metro, surrounded by good breakfast and brunch options, in a neighbourhood that invites you to linger at the weekend.
Prices and Plan for Those Who Only Train at the Weekend
There is no special price for weekend classes and no penalty rate. The same plans we use during the week apply equally to anyone who only comes on Saturday and Sunday.
The plan that best fits two sessions a week is 8 classes a month for €150. That is exactly the number of classes you will use if you come twice each weekend. The cost per class is €18.75. For comparison: a drop-in class costs €30. With the monthly plan, the saving is considerable.
A summary of all the plans available:
- Drop-in class: €30
- 4 classes a month: €100 (€25 per class)
- 8 classes a month: €150 (€18.75 per class)
- 12 classes a month: €200 (€16.67 per class)
- Unlimited: €250 a month
If you want to explore all the options in detail before deciding, see the prices page.
The first class is 50% off and costs €15. It is the way to try the studio, meet the instructors and see for yourself what the weekend classes are like before committing to a monthly plan.
Book in Advance: Weekend Classes Fill Up
This is not a courtesy warning. It is a real fact. Saturday and Sunday classes are the ones that fill up fastest in the whole week. The reason is obvious: many of us can only move our bodies when there is no work, and the studio has a maximum of 8 people per class that we do not negotiate.
If you plan to come on a particular Saturday and go to book on Friday afternoon, you will probably see few or no places available at the time you want.
What works:
- Book at the start of the week for the following weekend.
- If you have a fixed Saturday or Sunday slot you want to turn into a routine, book all the month’s sessions at once.
- If one week you cannot come, cancel with enough notice to free up your place. That way you help whoever is on the waiting list and manage your plan well.
Booking is done through pinarpilates.com/comprar/primera-clase. The system is simple and you can manage all your bookings from there.
Frequently Asked Questions about Weekend Classes
Can I start from scratch in the weekend classes even if I have never done Pilates?
Yes. There is no difference in entry level between weekday classes and Saturday or Sunday classes. If you have never done Reformer Pilates, the first thing to do is book your trial class, in which the instructor assesses your starting level and advises you on which classes best fit your starting point.
Are weekend classes more relaxed or lower intensity?
No. They are standard Reformer Pilates classes, with the same structure, the same technical demands and the same instructors who work during the week. What changes is the pace of the surroundings: the studio is calmer on Saturday morning than on Tuesday at 19:00, but the class itself is the same.
Can I combine weekend classes with the odd weekday session when I have time?
Of course. If you take the 8-class monthly plan, you can spread them however you like: all at the weekend, or some during the week if you have a gap one week. The plan makes no distinction between days of the week. The 12-class plan or the unlimited plan give you even more flexibility if your availability varies from month to month.
Is training twice a week enough to see results?
Two sessions a week are the minimum recommended for consistent results with Reformer Pilates. In 6 to 8 weeks of regular practice at that frequency, most students notice better posture, less back pain and a general feeling of more tone and energy. The changes are more gradual than with 3 or 4 sessions a week, but they are real and sustainable. The key is consistency.
Do I need to bring anything special for weekend classes?
No. The studio has all the materials you need. Come in comfortable clothes that allow movement, grip socks (they are compulsory for working on the Reformer; if you do not have any, you can buy them at the studio) and water. Nothing else.
Weekend classes are not a plan B for those who cannot come during the week. They are a real, complete option that works. If your life only leaves room on Saturdays and Sundays, that room is enough to build a Reformer Pilates practice that changes how you feel in your body.
